Lake Ogallala.

We took today off to avoid the highway, we will resume our eastbound trek tomorrow. We decided to unhook the CRV and take a look see at the City of Ogallala and to drive out to Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala. Our tour and travel guide indicated that Bald Eagles congregate near the hydroelectric plant on Lake Ogallala during the winter months when both lakes are frozen; lucky for us the lakes are not frozen but unfortunately we didn’t see any Bald Eagles.

Lake McConaughy is a large lake created by the Kingsley dam, Lake Ogallala is located at the foot of the dam; the area is known as a birding hot spot so we drove out to Lake Ogallala and parked near the hydroelectric plant. It was comfortably cool next to the water so we took a few photos before leaving.

Some of the birds we were watching.

This tree has several crane nests with cranes standing in them, two are flying off to the right.

These big guys were floating over the lake.

Beautiful lake!
Sounds like lots of bird activity in that area! Sorry you didn't get to see a Bald Eagle! Maybe next time!
