Drive To Des Moines, Iowa.

It was a long day on the road as we moved 441 miles east on I-80, we had a 1.5 hour delay in traffic due to a multi-vehicle crash near Lincoln, Nebraska; despite some strong winds that kept John busy all day we will not complain as one person died in the crash. We will spend the night at the Des Moines West KOA and move on down the road tomorrow.

Our day started well as traffic was sparse this morning on I-80.

Sandy tried to keep the beast occupied with the ball.

Under the Archway.

With over half of today’s miles behind us things came to a halt near Lincoln, Nebraska. We noticed a mobile signboard that said a crash had closed the road but we were not sure if it said I80 or 180, it was I-80.

This photo is for Mike McFall:

The Nebraska State Patrol took good care of us; we’ve both been there Mike, swinging traffic in the sun and 90+ degrees! Can’t say we miss it though.

We were detoured onto US 6 which was slow going.

We crossed the North Platte which is running high.

After an hour and a half delay and a fuel stop we were back on I-80 eastbound.

Traffic has picked up considerably from this morning.

Orange Barrels!, lots of bridge work in Iowa.

Safe for the night in Site #4 at the KOA.

That was a long drive!!! Glad you arrived safely to your site at the KOA. It is soooo sad to see accidents like that one where you know someone lost their life. So sad.

I have driven that stretch of I80 many times seems like there is something happening somewhere along it every time, from major construction to accidents or in the winter -blizzards. The truck traffic can get heavy too.

Sure am glad you guys made it safely to the KOA. We've sat in a couple of traffic crashes and I am always so grateful that we are safe and feel so bad for those who aren't. When do you get to slow down?
