We took another trip into Custer State Park today where we turned onto the Iron Mountain Road. The ride was similar to the Needles Highway, the road winds it way into the hills and offers views of the outstanding scenery that includes Mount Rushmore. Only a portion of the road which was constructed in 1933, lies within Custer State Park. We did not drive this road when we were here in 2001 so we were eager to see the tunnels that offer views of the Mount Rushmore Memorial.
At the first turnout we stopped at we were admiring the scenery when we noticed Mount Rushmore in the distance.
This is Tunnel #3.
As you drive through from the south it frames Mount Rushmore.
We stopped at the scenic overlook that offers a couple of viewpoints from which you can see the memorial.
Tunnel #1 also frames Mount Rushmore.
The Iron Mountain Road features several wooden pigtail bridges where you cross over the bridge, the road makes a tight loop and crosses under the bridge.
The Mount Rushmore Memorial.
The view from the Profile Turnout.
Diva KoKo celebrated her birthday today, she didn’t want us to publish her age but she is more than one and less than three today. What a good buddy we have had for the past two years.

Well, first things first...KoKo is adorable and here's wishing her a very happy birthay!!
Iron Mountain Road is a really nice drive. When we were in that area (many years ago) we went through there in vacation mode...cause we were on vacation. I can't wait to get there and just spend some time. Thanks for the driving tour!!
