Our Friday side trip was a ride through Crazy Women Canyon (Sandy thought it was fitting to take KoKo there). The Canyon is accessed by a 15 mile road, 6 miles are rough travel and 9 miles are graded gravel; we entered the Canyon traveling west to east from US 16 so we traveled the steepest and roughest portion first, the good news for us is that we were going downhill.
The wild flowers were blooming as we turned onto the road.
The road had some rough spots as we went down into the canyon.
Down in the canyon the road ran along Crazy Women Creek; the road crossed the creek several times using one lane bridges. Although the road was rough and narrow there was room to pull to the side when we met other vehicles.
There was always room to pull over for someone.
The road was fairly level here with small stones.
Crazy Women Creek was running like a river.
The canyon towers above us.
The narrowest portion of the canyon and road was near the east end of the canyon. There were large boulders along the creek and road that made it an interesting drive. After traveling through this section the road climbed up out of the valley and widened into a graded gravel road. During our drive out to Highway 89 we slowed several times to look at the deer and antelope grazing nearby.
Entering the narrow portion.
The creek runs among the boulders.
The large boulders and canyon side made it tight.
Up and out of the narrows.
The road started to improve and widen.
The road begins it’s climb out of the canyon.
Our last view of Crazy Women Creek.
We turned a corner and we were out of the canyon.
The road widened and was graded.
These young antelope were grazing near the road.
We enjoyed the canyon and our drive through it. This was the first place we have taken the CRV where the higher ride height helped us out, it was also the first “unimproved” road we took where we didn’t see someone driving a car; we did meet a full-size Ford Van and we pulled over to allow someone driving a 4x4 pickup pulling a utility trailer to pass.
Back in Buffalo we saw a pickup with these bumper stickers, this one was a nice fit with our journey through Crazy Women Canyon.

That was certainly an interesting drive. There were many "crazy" narrow roads going through Crazy Woman Canyon. Very pretty creek running through that area! Very nice drive! :) I bet you were glad that CRV was up a bit off the road.
Love the pics of those little antelope...so cute!
You all take care!
