We packed up and were ready to go this morning at the stroke of 10. We had decided to follow Mary and Paul’s suggestion to take the scenic route up Hwy 50 rather than the more direct drive up I-80 which is tore up in a few spots. We will be staying at the Zephyr Cove Resort for a few days to tour Lake Tahoe, we will leave before the weekend when the rates go up $25.00 a night!
The drive up here went well, we drove 112 miles and averaged a little over 58 mph. The weather was good and it was nice to watch the outside temperature drop as we got closer to Tahoe. We did have one construction delay but we were only stationary for about three minutes, as the elevation went up there were a fair amount of curves in the 30-35 mph range, the steepest down-grade we had was in the 5%-6% area but it was a little curvy. I just wanted to see if Mary was reading the blog, we actually averaged 46 mph for the trip.
It was a scenic drive today.
We could see the snow as we ascended.
Enjoyed the view from up here.
We could see the lake in the distance.
Had to descend to the lake.
Some of the curves were tight.
The resort seems like a nice place at this point, the roads and sites are paved, the registration was quick and we were parked and set up quickly; there was one very sharp turn in the road to our site but we were able to avoid it by taking the next road and driving through an empty site behind us and right into our spot. We took a walk around the campground, the sites and facilities are clean and well maintained; there are some very nice tent sites if you like to sleep on the ground.
Our site at Zephyr Cove.
Not very evident here but we can see the lake from our windows.
There are only a few tent sites with parking on the site, most sites require you to carry your equipment uphill from the parking area.
The tent sites are nice when you get there.
Lake Tahoe is across the highway from where we are parked but the resort has it’s hotel, beach and boat tours along the shore so we were able to cross the roadway and walk that area to get a closer look at the lake. We will take a ride tomorrow to take in some better views.
Lake Tahoe.
Sandy and KoKo enjoyed the walk.

You did good! Glad to see you made the drive safely. And, it sounds like you've landed in a great spot. Enjoy Tahoe! (And, OF COURSE we're reading your blog!!!!!!)
Lovely photographs today. That drive is totally amazing, as is Lake Tahoe. Hope you enjoy your time at the resort.
Wow.. such lovely shots! I especially like the second one the best, with the babbling mountain stream and the rocks and the sunshine. Just the kind of place to pull over and take it all in. Thanks for sharing!
