Drive To North Salt Lake.

Yesterday we intended to drive to Provo and spend 9 nights at the Lakewood RV Park, our stay at Lakewood was shorter than we planned so we are now in North Salt Lake at the Pony Express RV Resort. We had intended to drive here when we left Provo so when Lakewood didn’t workout we called here and they were able to accommodate an earlier arrival, we will stay here for 16 nights.

The drive from Baker went well, it was a nice day to complete our trip on Highway 50. We had two passes to cross; Utah doesn’t name summits so we have no names, the first had a few slow curves on the descent but the grades were not severe, the second summit was a barley noticeable hill. Highway 50 and Highway 6 ran together for much of our drive and when they split we followed Hwy 6 to the northeast; Hwy 6 took us to Hwy 132 and we rode that to I-15.

Back on Hwy 50, it’s a little narrower in Utah.

The first summit was just over the Utah border.

Down the other side, there were a few slow curves but the scenery was great.

Down we went through this valley.

Lots of sand in this area.

There was even a small dust storm.

The second and last summit of the day.

Sevier Dry Lake.

Hwy 6 had the same great scenery and we started to see farm land again.

We had been concerned about Lakewood RV as the sites appeared to be tight so we called them yesterday and they gave us a site that (on their map), looked like it would accommodate the mothership, we were assured we could cancel if we didn’t like the site. When we arrived John was not impressed with the park as the sites were closer than we thought, in looking at the way units were jammed in the sites there was not enough space to walk between some of them. Sandy saw the site we were promised and suprise, suprise, it was occupied; she went inside to register while John started to unhook.

While Sandy was inside two more units pulled in (or tried to), behind us; there was not enough space allowed to unhook so John pulled around the house (office building), and parked near the exit to unhook. Sandy returned and said that they “had to change a few things” and we now had a different site, John wasn’t in a good mood by then and was ready to leave but we looked at the site and talked about how we could drive in and park but it would be tight. When we got back to the mothership the very small area around the office was still full and the motorhome behind us had again pulled up so close that John couldn’t unhitch the CRV; the 5th wheel behind both of us drove out and left, John thought he made a good choice.

With the guy behind us chomping at the bit to get to his site that he apparently couldn’t get to unless we moved, John drove out the exit and back in the entrance, by this time he was fed up so Sandy called Pony Express and received a confirmed site. What really sunk Lakewood  in John’s eyes were the carnival food trailers that were parked out on the side of the road in front of the place, there apparently wasn’t room for them anywhere inside the park; the owners must stay in the campground when there isn’t a carnival to work at. Anyway, John was crabby and ready to leave so we told them that because they moved us to a much smaller site than we were promised we were leaving.

We drove back to I-15 and were in North Salt Lake within an hour, we set up, had supper and went to bed. Today we started cleaning the mothership, a week in the dusty desert of Nevada has really made a mess of the place.

Our site at Pony Express is KoKo approved.

So sorry to hear about your difficulties at Lakewood. We would have pulled out of there too. Looks like your new site is a winner. Very nice.

Take care!

Good that you swapped campgrounds, nobody should have to pay for inferior service or places that ignore your specific size requirement on a reservation. You did the right thing!

I was thinking about all your road pics... the pavement is all smooth and lovely. Don't ya miss those potholes, crackes, and blacktop gobs of patches you left back in Wisconsin????
