Another Big Drive.

We enjoyed our stay in Sparks, the Sparks Marina RV Park was a good place to spend several days while we caught up on a few things. Over the weekend both KoKo and John received much-needed haircuts, we did our weekly cleaning and shopping and also tended to a few maintenance items on the mothership. John was able to fix the switch problem we had by cutting off a connector and plugging the wires directly into the switch, the switch was fine, it was a connector issue; John also caulked a few spots on the roof that needed attention. In addition to the work, we relaxed a little by walking around Marina Park (across the street), and enjoying the time we spent in the pool and hot tub.

Today we moved from Sparks to Fallon Nevada, we plan on doing a one nighter here at the Fallon RV Park but we may stay for an additional night depending on the wind tomorrow. Today’s drive was a whopping 55 miles with a fuel stop; John had a bad pit stop, he missed the station driveway (there were several to choose from), and we were on a dead-end road so we had to unhook the CRV to turn around, good thing we only had a short drive today.

On I-80, it’s starting to look like the west out there.

I-80 outside Sparks had a few hills to look at.

After our fuel stop we took Alternate 50 to Hwy 50 which got us to Fallon. The roadway was all four-lane and very smooth which made for an easy drive after the chaos of the fuel stop. At the RV park we got hooked up before the winds started, with the wind, dust and blowing cottonwood seed we only took a few laps around the campground before heading back inside.

Hwy 50 on our way to Fallon, we aren’t lonely yet!

It’s already looking like desert.

When we leave Fallon we will continue on Hwy 50 (the loneliest road in America), to Ely Nevada for a night and then on to Baker where we will spend a couple of days while we tour the Great Basin National Park. We debated driving directly to Ely from Sparks but we want to experience the loneliness rather than rush through it.

Our site (Lucky 13), at Fallon RV Park.

I love US 50 through Nevada. The roadway was very good the times I've driven it, little or no traffic, and some beautiful mountains. I hope to drive it again this fall.
