Moving day to San Diego, CA

We spent Thursday cleaning and packing for our move to San Diego. We enjoyed the Ocotillo Wells/Borrego Springs area and we hated to leave the Leapin’ Lizard RV Ranch but it was time to move on.

Friday morning we disconnected, said our goodbyes and drove the 167 miles to Santee CA. We took a route through Brawley and El Centro to I-8. On I-8 we crossed a couple summits and passes and then had a big downhill ride into San Diego and Santee; although it was mid-afternoon John earned his pay driving through the traffic into Padre Dam’s Santee Lakes Park and Campground where we will stay for the next month.

KoKo hates moving day, she rested her head on her favorite toy during our drive.

The mountains along I-8.

It’s a long descent into the San Diego area.

The Border Patrol had a checkpoint on I-8.

Once we were on our site we got set up and then headed out to buy groceries; Ocotillo Wells was a nice isolated area but there was no easy access to stores so we were low on supplies. The traffic was heavy and we were unfamiliar with the area but managed to find the store and stock up.

Sandy was up and running this morning so after John got up and finished setting up we took a bicycle ride around Santee Lakes. The park uses reclaimed and recycled water to fill its’ seven lakes and water the grounds, the lakes are used for recreation and fishing. The park has 300 camp sites and wireless access, in addition to cable television at some sites there are two pools and a hot tub.

We were going to take KoKo for a bike ride but she made a break for it shortly after this was taken.

A raft and fishing pier on one of the lakes.

You can rent canoes and paddle wheels.

The playground set was busy today.

The Aqua Playground.

There are bike trails, and roads to ride inside the park.

Today Sandy also made our campground reservations through Memorial Day so our route is set for most of our stay in California. We will probably stay here tomorrow and plan our activities for next week here in San Diego.

JoAnn asked us to check site 294; it looks like a good site, here are a couple of photos.

The drive into San Diego was pretty. Sorry about all the traffic. I loved the picture of the Aqua Park - what fun to be able to play in that.

The picture of KoKo was darling. Made me miss our Charlie Brown.

Thanks for sharing your travels with us.
