Elephant Tree Trail

Today we visited the Elephant Tree area to see the desert bloom and we were not disappointed; this is the area we were told to visit by people in our campground and it was only a  five mile drive from Leapin’ Lizard. The road into the parking area got progressively rougher as we drove and most people pulled off the road and parked rather than brave the rocky stretches; now we were feeling good about having the CRV as we navigated over the rocks and holes and deep sand, so as we proudly pulled into the parking area we parked next to … a two door Chevy Cobalt.

The trail is only a mile long but we put on at least 1.5 as we didn’t exactly stick to the trail; very few of the people we saw walked the trail, they walked out into the desert on their own. There isn’t much to add so we will just post some of our images from today.

The Cholla were flowering.

As was this Barrel Cactus.

The Prickly Pears were great.

The Elephant Tree.

This one smelled as violet as it looked.

Another Cholla.

Color near and far.

Oh, Sandy, I have enjoyed your blog. The flowers in the desert are beautiful. I am going to Kingman AZ on April 13th. Hopefully the desert will still be blooming when I get there. Your Farmville friend, Pauline Granger
P.S. Have a great time.

Really beautiful photos! Looks like the rain from the last couple of months is affecting the countryside! Great post.

Your pictures are so well done. I guess it is a good camera and a skilled operator, but these are simply fantastic.
