We were up early today thinking that I-90 would open by 7:00 AM and we could get to Sioux Falls South Dakota and begin setting up residency. Unfortunately I-90 didn’t open until noon so we lost a day and a half in Minnesota waiting for the storm to pass and the road to open (lucky for us we are now retired). Because of the lost time we changed our schedule and headed for Madison South Dakota where we visited our mail forwarding service to finalize our mailing address and vehicle registration forms.
We then walked down the street to the Lake County Court House where we visited the Treasurer’s office to get our vehicle registration plates.
We took a few minutes to tour our new residence, Madison South Dakota; it appears to be a nice town and we intend to visit again.
We then drove back to Sioux Falls, SD where we would spend the night. After checking into the Days Inn we drove to the Drivers License Exam office to see if we could still get our Drivers License. It was about 5:00 PM so we were worried we might be to late but thought we would give it a shot. After providing the necessary paperwork (see our previous blog) we were both granted our South Dakota drivers license.
Sandy used two websites to research what was needed to establish South Dakota residency. MyDakotaaddress.com and Alternative Resource, they both have very good websites and provide all the information you need.
We chose MyDakotaaddress based on their price and for the email notification option we preferred for our mail.

It looks pretty there in Madison, but it also looks like you need a warm coat...
Our story is similar--went to Sioux Falls, stayed at a motel, got our drivers license, registered to vote, etc.
Sioux Falls is a great town!
CONGRATS you two S. Dakotans! We were wondering in chat last night if you made it the last section of the way there. Let's hope for clear roads and warmer temps for your return to Wisconsin. Keep us informed, we are following vicariously through you two!!
We're so glad you made it! Missed ya in chat. Thanks for posting.
Madison looks like a nice little town. Good to read you made it safely and have gotten those vital steps taken care of for your new lifestyle! How exciting!
